The discovery of gold in 1862 starting a rush of fortune seekers. The lure of gold brought them here from the four corners of the earth and the promise of gold kept them here. In it’s hayday Barkerville was said to be the largest city west of Chicago and north of San Francisco!

Barkerville still has a treasure in store for our visitors. Over 130 buildings have been carefully restored or recreated to bring the Cariboo Gold Rush back to life. Fifty years as a Historic Site in 2008. Come Celebrate with us.
